Design Process

DESIGN CONSULTATION

Before we even sign a contract, Rachelle, our lead designer and principal, will personally meet with you for an in depth consultation for up to 2 hours. She will discuss your project with you in detail, review plans and inspiration images you may have. A full project scope, recommended plan revisions and any and all notes will be left with you for your use in your project.

CONTRACT SIGNING

Once the contract is signed, you will receive an email with your project’s schedule, a series of meetings for all presentations and an estimated schedule for the construction work we plan to do. Keeping to this schedule is vital to keeping your project on track and on budget. Any changes to the schedule will delay the project timeline. Although we cannot guarantee the Contractor’s schedule, we do our best to keep them on time.

CLIENT QUESTIONNAIRE

We will ask you to fill out a questionnaire that will give us an in-depth view of who you are and what your project is about. We learn what your likes and dislikes are, who lives in your home, and how you live your lives. We will also ask you for a detailed scope of the work you want to do and how you envision your space.

SITE EVALUATION

Someone from our team will visit the site to take measurements and pictures. We will note locations of outlets, speakers etc., make Drawings and sketches of the space, note the adjacent rooms and the overall flow of the space. We will also take measurements and pictures of any existing furniture, artwork, area rugs, etc. that you want to use in the new space. Our drafting team will then draw the plans and get started on your project. If you have existing or architectural plans, we request them from you.

PROGRAMMING AND PLANNING

Now that we have the information that we need from you and your site we can start to plan your project. Our team will put together a comprehensive and detailed budget, create a preliminary layout of the space and present you with a list of the contractors needed to complete this project such as a painter or millworker. We ask that you make any and all changes you would like within one week to keep us on schedule.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN

Our design team selects images of the design style, types of furniture, colors, and textures we plan to use. Rachelle will meet with you to present the schematic design of your space. We ask that you review and make any and all changes you would like within one week to keep us on schedule.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Our design team takes the information and feedback you have given us to finalize the floor plan, select the furniture and finishes. We update your budget with the actual cost of the pieces selected. At the presentation Rachelle will show you your space in 3D, you will be able to feel samples of the finishes we are using and see how the colors work together. We ask that you review and make any and all changes you would like within one week to keep us on schedule.

CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN PLANS

When you have approved everything that RED has proposed in the previous phases, our drafting team creates a set of construction documents. These documents give the contractor the complete picture of the work to be done. They include demolition and construction plans, specification sheets, material locations and pattern directions as well as the finalized design presentation.

CONTRACTOR BIDDING

Rachelle will meet with contractors who will be required to present references and images from past clients. Onsite, a copy of the construction documents will be presented to them and a full walk through of the space with detailed instructions of the work to be done will take place. RED will then request a proposal be submitted within a week of the meeting. Once the packages are received our team will review and compare the proposals, references, and images.  Rachelle will make recommendations to the client based on her knowledge and experience. All contracts will be directly between the client and contractor.

APPROVALS

This phase will happen at the same time and the Construction Documents and Contractor Bidding phases. Someone from our team will put together “Tear Sheets” of all the items that were selected for your project. You will be expected to sign off on each item before anything is purchased.

PURCHASING

Our purchasing team will compile purchase orders for all products to be purchased and ask the contractor to confirm quantities. Our purchasing team will then place the orders and create a delivery timeline. Calls to the vendors, shippers and installers will be made throughout the purchasing phase and the delivery timeline will be kept up to date.

DELIVERY AND STORAGE

On the day of deliveries, a member of our team will receive the delivery to ensure that each item is delivered whole and undamaged. Some items will need to be stored whether onsite, at a storage facility or by RED. We will manage the storage and safe keeping of your items until the time of installation.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

Rachelle will meet the contractors on their start date to do a full walkthrough of the scope of work. Our design team will stay in contact with all contractors through site visits, phone calls, text messages and video chats to ensure that no question goes unanswered, and all work stays on budget and on schedule. We will visit the site once a week or more if necessary taking pictures of the progress along the way. We will keep you up to date on the progress and approve work deadlines according to your contract with the contractor.

FINAL WALK THROUGH

After all is said and done, our team conducts a final walk through with both the contractor and the client. We make sure that our clients are happy, all work has been completed properly, and that no touch-ups are needed.
