This Care and Rehabilitation Center located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the home of Moby Dick, was very proud of their fishing and whaling history. They requested that their history be included in the design.
The reception desk was covered in a reclaimed wood like what would have been on an old ship. The lights above it were caged in metal like you would find on modern ships. The use of blues, wave like patterns & compass like patterns were used throughout in subtle ways. The artwork selected also fit within the design theme.
On the second floor they had a whole wing dedicated to their Portuguese population, with a nursing staff that spoke Portuguese. They asked us to keep the fishing/ boating theme since that is a big industry there as well. But to incorporate a more Portuguese feel. We used the bold colors of the flag and hand painted terracotta tiles to make the nurses station pop.
